Central Highlands Cultural Festival: An Exciting Celebration



The Ro Mam’s largest festival is the barn-opening ceremony held at the end of the year when all harvested rice is brought to the barn in the field.


A new rice ceremony of the K’Ho S’re ethnic people in Lam Dong province draws plenty of attention from both locals and tourists.


Gong culture in the Central Highlands region is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.


A ceremony aimed at worshiping the first rain of the season is performed by the Mnong ethnic people who reside in Dak Nong province.


Coffee, rice, and wine are among the main items offered to the ancestors.


The unique water ceremony of the Jrai ethnic people in Gia Lai province is re-enacted.








Ethnic Ede people in Dak Lak province hold a ceremony for elder members of the community.


The first festival has drawn the participation of nearly 600 artisans, actors, actresses, and athletes from the five Central Highlands localities of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Lam Dong.


The event provides an opportunity for the ethnic groups in the region to meet, promote cultural exchanges, and share their experiences in the preservation and popularization of their cultural space and festivals.

Giant calligraphy hat breaks record as largest in Vietnam

The work has been done on the initiative of Dao Thi Cam Suong, a calligrapher from Can Tho. The giant conical hat is made up of a total of 540 smaller conical hats, with calligraphy written on top. Suong has spent 89 days writing the calligraphy and finding connections to produce the finished product. The words written on the giant hat include sightseeing spots in Can Tho, folk songs, proverbs, poems, and the names of various provinces and cities across the country. She shares that the purpose of her work is to honour the beauty of the fatherland through pieces of calligraphy. Indeed, the giant hat is created from 540 small conical hats which themselves represent the country’s 54 ethnic minority groups.
