Tasting Hanoi’s Delicacy: Cold Snail Vermicelli Soup

Image
The late author Vu Bang praised bun oc , or snail vermicelli soup, as a pinnacle of Hanoi’s fine dining in his book “Mieng Ngon Ha Noi” or Delicacies of Hanoi. Hanoi’s autumn weather provides an ideal opportunity to enjoy bun oc for its crispness. The saying “The snail in October” suggests that the best time to eat this dish is when the snails are fat and in season. When prepared by talented Hanoi chefs, bun oc becomes a delicacy. This popular dish made from hard-shelled mollusks living in muddy environments like ponds or rice fields is transformed into tasty dishes. While the hot version of bun oc is more common, the cold version known as Bun oc nguoi is highly regarded by gourmets for its preservation of Hanoi’s raw and essential cuisine. For over 30 years, Nguyen Thi Bau and her younger sister have been running a cold snail vermicelli soup shop on Tay Son Street in Dong Da District. They represent the third generation in their family to sell this dish. Every morning, Bau c...

This decision comes after a comprehensive safety assessment conducted by expert members of international marathon organization boards. The tragic incident in which a runner lost their life during the Dalat Ultra Trail 2020 prompted this evaluation process. To ensure the safety of participants, the 100-kilometer mountain race will only be held during the dry season. Lam An Company, based in Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province, has been granted a license to organize the LAAN Ultra Trail 2023, featuring races of varying distances ranging from 10 to 100 kilometers. Running Connect from Thailand will be the technology partner responsible for race surveillance and monitoring runners’ health. The LAAN Ultra Trail 2023 promises a challenging and captivating experience as it takes runners through the picturesque pine fore...

Ngan shared: “Thanks to my participation in the Child Fund’s program, I have changed a lot, from being a shy, timid girl to being more courageous.” From the sponsor’s letters, a mountain girl like me was able to cross the village’s bamboo ramparts to know how big and beautiful the world out there truly is, even though it’s only through paintings, pictures, or the simple descriptions of the sponsor. That is also a great motivation for me to be able to go to university without having to finish high school to work as a worker like my peers.” During the nine years of connecting with the sponsor, the little girl has always felt motivated and loved. Ngan recalls: “Like many other children, I also really enjoy receiving g...
