On March 10, in Hanoi, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Phuong Hoa had a meeting with Director of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Hanoi Monica Sharma. On this occasion, the license of establishment and operation of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Hanoi was also awarded to the Indian Director. The natural disaster killed more than 50,000 people, destroyed thousands of houses, and caused economic losses worth some tens of billion of US dollars. The money was raised during the first phase of a fundraising campaign launched by the VRC Central Committee on February 17 in support of people hit by the devastating earthquake. As of March 6, it received donations and commitments of more than VND12 billion VND ($506,436) and goods from agencies, businesses and individuals.
