Sustainable Stays in Vietnam: Top Destinations for 2023

Many accommodations and destinations in Vietnam are prioritizing sustainable practices, whether they are located in bustling cities, tucked away in nature, along the coastline, or high in the mountains.

The recently announced annual Sustainable Travel Report 2023 by Booking.com reveals that there are 5,000 properties in Vietnam recognized for their “sustainable practices”. These properties are located in HCMC, Hanoi, Danang, Vung Tau, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon, Phu Quoc, and Ha Long.

With a mission to make sustainable travel easier for everyone, Booking.com has also unveiled a list of inspiring destinations in Vietnam that offer a higher percentage of sustainable accommodations, aiming to satisfy this year’s wanderlust.

“Whether in busy cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi or in tranquil destinations like Phu Quoc and Quy Nhon, there are numerous properties that cater to travelers who prioritize sustainable travel choices,” says the accommodation booking platform.

Through Booking’s Sustainable Tourism Badge program, travelers can easily search for accommodations and destinations in Vietnam that adhere to sustainable practices.

To earn the badge, properties have adopted various sustainable attributes that contribute to their recognition as sustainable establishments. These attributes can include small yet impactful changes such as the use of reusable towels and eco-friendly LED lighting, as well as more significant efforts like incorporating green spaces in their buildings and suggesting tours and activities organized by local guides and businesses.

Other globally recognized sustainable attributes include the elimination of plastic straws, cups, cutlery, and stirrers, as well as the installation of double-glazed windows.

The Sustainable Travel Report 2023 also highlights that sustainable travel remains a priority for 96% of Vietnamese travelers. Furthermore, over 97% express their intention to take action and make a conscious effort to travel more sustainably in the next 12 months.

Through the Travel Sustainable Badge, we can assist these travelers in finding sustainable accommodations and provide them with information about the sustainable practices of these properties.”

“Similarly, we are also witnessing an increase in the number of properties listed on our platform with a travel sustainable badge as they acknowledge the importance of transitioning to more sustainable practices,” he added.

Giant calligraphy hat breaks record as largest in Vietnam

The work has been done on the initiative of Dao Thi Cam Suong, a calligrapher from Can Tho. The giant conical hat is made up of a total of 540 smaller conical hats, with calligraphy written on top. Suong has spent 89 days writing the calligraphy and finding connections to produce the finished product. The words written on the giant hat include sightseeing spots in Can Tho, folk songs, proverbs, poems, and the names of various provinces and cities across the country. She shares that the purpose of her work is to honour the beauty of the fatherland through pieces of calligraphy.
