Opening of Vietnam-Japan Festival in Da Nang

The Vice-chairman of the local People’s Committee, Ho Ky Minh, highlighted the continuous development of cooperation between Da Nang and Japanese localities over the past few years. This partnership has emerged as a shining example within the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The city of Da Nang has successfully collaborated with 20 localities in Japan, forming valuable partnerships with four cities in particular – Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama, and Kisarazu. These cooperative relationships have resulted in numerous programs that have yielded significant and beneficial outcomes.

“Japan is consistently one of Da Nang City’s foremost strategic partners,” affirms Minh.

According to recent data, the city currently hosts over 222 Japanese enterprises, representative offices, and projects, contributing a substantial foreign direct investment amounting to more than US $1 billion.

Japanese-invested projects have made a substantial impact on Da Nang’s socio-economic growth by providing technology transfer, workforce development, and improved competitiveness.

According to the official from Da Nang, the strong bond between the people of these two countries has greatly contributed to their economic, cultural, and social collaboration, as well as facilitating exchanges between individuals.

Minh expressed that the robust support of the citizens of both nations will greatly contribute to the advancement of their diplomatic ties and foster stronger economic cooperation.

The Vietnam-Japan Festival, initially launched in 2014, has established itself as a yearly cultural extravaganza for the residents of Da Nang, tourists, and the Japanese community residing in this central Vietnamese city.

The festival this year, which concludes on Sunday, showcases 80 exhibitors representing prominent domestic and international brands. These booths offer diverse offerings in areas such as culture, cuisine, education, tourism, and sports services. Additionally, the festival provides various opportunities for investment and trade promotion programs.

The Consulate General of Japan in Da Nang is set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam with a range of exciting programs. Among these is a captivating opera performance called “Princess Anio,” which tells the love story of Princess Ngoc Hoa from Quang Nam Province and Araki Sotaro, a merchant from Japan’s Nagasaki, dating back 400 years. Yamada Takio, the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, made the announcement and expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming celebrations.

The festival not only offers a chance for both locals and tourists in Da Nang to experience the art of Japanese calligraphy, flower arrangement, and tea ceremony.

The event features an informative session on studying in Japan, as well as exhibitions and seminars focusing on tourism and the economy.

Giant calligraphy hat breaks record as largest in Vietnam

The work has been done on the initiative of Dao Thi Cam Suong, a calligrapher from Can Tho. The giant conical hat is made up of a total of 540 smaller conical hats, with calligraphy written on top. Suong has spent 89 days writing the calligraphy and finding connections to produce the finished product. The words written on the giant hat include sightseeing spots in Can Tho, folk songs, proverbs, poems, and the names of various provinces and cities across the country. She shares that the purpose of her work is to honour the beauty of the fatherland through pieces of calligraphy. Indeed, the giant hat is created from 540 small conical hats which themselves represent the country’s 54 ethnic minority groups.
