Conference connecting Thanh Hoa – Japan 2023 was recently held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association and Thanh Hoa province.

This is part of the events to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations. It is also to welcome more than 300 representatives from Japanese businesses and from the Japan – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance, according to the Organzing’ committee.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Thanh Hoa – Japan: Boosting cooperation, Rapid and Sustainable Development”. The 3-day event lasted until the afternoon of May 7 and the highligh was to review the signficant achievements made by the cooperation between Thanh Hoa and Japanese investors, partners over the years. Also, it is to welcome foreign investors continue to explore opportunities in Thanh Hoa in the future.

Since 1997, the Japanese Government has sponsored 10 ODA projects in Thanh Hoa, with a total fund of US $45,5 million. Thanh Hoa province currently more than 13,300 workers working in Japan in various areas.

Out of 200 FDI projects in Thanh Hoa Province, 17 of them are from Japanese enterprises, with a total investment of about US $6,6 billion, accounting for 45.7% of total FDI capital in Thanh Hoa. This makes Japan the largest FDI investing country in the province.

Speaking at the conference, Secretary of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Do Trong Hung stressed that Thanh Hoa wishes to strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Japanese partners in building smart cities, e-government, education, healthcare, human resource development, and the labour market.

Thanh Hoa also pledges to implement solutions to improve the investment environment, perfect mechanisms and policies, promote administrative reform, and ensure security, social order and safety for enterprises, to invest in the province, cited from NDO.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Japan – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance Nikai Toshihiro reaffirmed that Thanh Hoa is a locality with rich tourism resources, such as the UNESCO-recognised Ho Dynasty Citadel and Sam Son Beach. Moreover, the province also has Nghi Son economic zone with a modern seaport. Therefore, the province still has a lot of potential for economic and tourism cooperation with Japan.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Vietnam Takio Yamada affirmed the close relatioship between Thanh Hoa and Japanese partners. Direct investment from Japan has reached VND 2.,2 trillion for the Nghi Son 2 power plant project and this project is expected to meet the demand for electricity supply for Vietnam after it comes into operation last year. Also, AEON, Japanese retail giant, is currently planning to start construction of a shopping center in 2023, expected to be opened in 2025 in this city.

He also explained that Japanese businesses choose Thanh Hoa as a destination for investment because of two reasons: the abundant labor force and the developed transport infrastructure system, including the highway system, moreover at the city center. Also, Thanh Hoa has established a Japan Support Department (JAPAN DESK) and established a special economic zone, which is considered an attractive investment attraction for many Japanese businesses.

Giant calligraphy hat breaks record as largest in Vietnam

The work has been done on the initiative of Dao Thi Cam Suong, a calligrapher from Can Tho. The giant conical hat is made up of a total of 540 smaller conical hats, with calligraphy written on top. Suong has spent 89 days writing the calligraphy and finding connections to produce the finished product. The words written on the giant hat include sightseeing spots in Can Tho, folk songs, proverbs, poems, and the names of various provinces and cities across the country. She shares that the purpose of her work is to honour the beauty of the fatherland through pieces of calligraphy. Indeed, the giant hat is created from 540 small conical hats which themselves represent the country’s 54 ethnic minority groups.
