Lunar New Year’s Eve fireworks to be set off across Ho Chi Minh City

The Municipal Department of Culture and Sports recently announced that at the six sites, a high-range firework show will light up the skies over the entrance of the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City for local people to enjoy.

Elsewhere, low-range fireworks will be put on display at Ben Noc Memorial Temple in Thu Duc City, Dam Sen Theme Park in District 11, Ben Duoc Memorial Temple in Cu Chi district, Can Thanh Town in Can Gio district, and a memorial of martyrs in Binh Chanh district.

The fireworks displays will be available at 0:00 on January 22 to mark the beginning of the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet.

Local authorities have assigned competent agencies to make thorough preparations for the show to ensure the utmost safety and security at designated venues.

Giant calligraphy hat breaks record as largest in Vietnam

The work has been done on the initiative of Dao Thi Cam Suong, a calligrapher from Can Tho. The giant conical hat is made up of a total of 540 smaller conical hats, with calligraphy written on top. Suong has spent 89 days writing the calligraphy and finding connections to produce the finished product. The words written on the giant hat include sightseeing spots in Can Tho, folk songs, proverbs, poems, and the names of various provinces and cities across the country. She shares that the purpose of her work is to honour the beauty of the fatherland through pieces of calligraphy. Indeed, the giant hat is created from 540 small conical hats which themselves represent the country’s 54 ethnic minority groups. The diametre of the giant hat spans for more than eight metres, with the length from the tip to the brim roughly four meters and the length from the tip of the cone to the ground roughly six metres.
